Montreal is one of the most welcoming cities of the world. And this statement is true both in downtown and in the gay Village. Born 15 years ago, the Village, located east of downtown, is now one of the largest gay neighborhoods in North America. It houses and centuries-old buildings are owned by gays, lesbians and their families who have taken up residence in nice bed and breakfast lodges. If the pillars of colorful subway station symbolize that it is owned by the gay community in Montreal it also reflect it's valuable contribution to the openness that characterizes the city.
