St Martin – the gay-friendly, cosmopolitan island of the Caribbean !
St Martin is one of the most gay-friendly island in the Caribbean, and has a unique caracter. It is the smallest island in the world which is divided into 2 countries, French, and Dutch. Today, St Martin has become very popular among tourists, and gays. For 6 main reasons !
+ The cosmopolitan aspect, as over 100 different nationalities live and work here, creating a very open-minded and friendly spirit.
+ The food. Amazing choice, on the French side, the village of Grand Case is also called the gastronomy capital of the Caribbean.
+ The beaches ! 32 to choose from, either quiet and discreet, or vibrant and large, with great bars. You can swim, tan or walk nude, as St Martin enjoys several nude or clothing optional beaches.
+ The artists. Infinity of workshops, art galeries, painters, sculptors, ceramists, precious wood marqueters, etc.
+ The Nightlife : from outdoor clubs and lounges to wild night clubs and busy casinos, there is something for all !
+ And the duty free shopping !
Locally, the best is to rent a car, to be fully independant to go to beaches or nearby restaurants. The island is small, so distances are always short, but the roads can be steep, and some ways leading to great beaches are somewhat bumpy or dirty. The best is to rent a car with a good engine, or even better, a small SUV, like the Wrangler or Terios.
From St Martin, you can very easily organize day trips (by boat or plane) to nearby islands, like Saba (the ‘Unspoiled Queen’ with nice volcano to climb, Anguilla (great powder sand beaches), or St Barth (for the ‘Rich and Famous’).
